Background
NCKU OPEN is an annual badminton competition held by National Cheng Kung University. Originally for alumni, the competition has over 30 years of history and stands out for its popularity, visual design, and beloved souvenirs.
This year, NCKU wants the visual design to be memorable for the history of the campus and the city where it lies, Tainan.
Concept
NCKU places great emphasis on the presentation of each visual image, particularly in highlighting the connection between the imagery and its underlying meaning. Therefore, significant time and effort are devoted to the exploration of semiotic meanings.
In the process of research and ideation, the NCKU emblem showcases an intriguing value: the phoenix flower, which has colored Tainan’s landscape since the Japanese colonial period, later became the city flower of Tainan in the Republic era, and eventually an identifying symbol of NCKU. This exploration of time and space weaves a richly interesting story.
Color Scheme
This year's NCKU OPEN has environmental sustainability goals and aligns with paperless marketing. The colors are primarily defined using web colors, with special colors and printing colors serving as supplementary references.
